At the start of 2026 we’ve taken the difficult decision to close Cargodale and its active travel offshoot, Stroll and Roll.

From starting in 2020 as a self-funded project at the height of the pandemic, we’ve gone on to become a fully-fledged delivery service. Over 50 local businesses have used us for thousands of deliveries. We’ve also helped promote cargo bikes as a means of transport, and given many local folk their first hands-on experience with an e-bike. Other delivery services have credited us as an inspiration, and we’ve shown that bike delivery can work even in the brutally hilly South Pennines.

Sadly nearly six years on from lockdown, our overheads keep going up and the retail landscape could not be more different. So we’ve decided to park up our bikes for the last time.

We’d like to thank all our customers over the years, some of whom have used us from the very beginning right up to now. Our many wonderful staff - from eager volunteers to cheerfully dependable employees. And support from Calderdale Council and Todmorden Town Board which enabled us to turn a crazy idea into a business with tangible social benefits.

New Community Active Travel Hubs are coming to Hebden Bridge and Elland in 2026 which will help continue to support local people to walk and cycle more.
